DAVID TAO CONCERT ALBUM-BOOK&COVER#05

This project reimagines David Tao’s 2003 “Soul Power II” concert as if it had taken place in the United States. Through this lens, I designed a complete vinyl record and bilingual lyric book—paying tribute to the golden era of Mandarin R&B with a new, global perspective.

Although the original concert was held in Hong Kong, this redesign envisions a U.S. tour setting. From typographic choices and color palettes to image treatments, I infused elements of West Coast urban culture, stage lighting atmospheres, and bilingual tension to reflect the international voice of a Chinese artist.

The cover features a layered silhouette of David Tao with an expressive hand gesture, symbolizing the extension of soul through sound. Cool tones dominate the interior layout, reinforcing an introspective, live-performance mood. The lyric book uses a bilingual, staggered layout—mirroring the cultural fluidity of Mandarin R&B performed on a global stage.

This is a visual experiment in materializing sound, archiving memory, and reconstructing the relationship between live music and physical media.
